LIFE'S MOST IMPORTANT LESSON

“No pain that we suffer, no trial that we experience is wasted. It ministers to our education, to the development of such qualities as patience, faith, fortitude and humility. All that we suffer and all that we endure, especially when we endure it patiently, builds up our characters, purifies our hearts, expands our souls, and makes us more tender and charitable, more worthy to be called the children of God” (quoted in Spencer W. Kimball, Faith Precedes the Miracle) TRIALS ARE THE PRICE THAT WE PAY TO COME TO KNOW GOD. EVEN THE THINGS WE DO WRONG WILL BRING US TO HIM, BECAUSE WE WILL NEED TO REPENT, THROUGH THE ATONEMENT OF OUR SAVIOR, JESUS CHRIST - -GOD'S ONLY BEGOTTEN SON - - WHO BRINGS US TO OUR FATHER. Gurney Family Proclamation

We, the Gurneys, are an eternally organized family who chose to leave God's presence to receive mortal bodies, and have covenanted to live worthily to return to Him again.

We love, honor and respect our Father in Heaven, ourselves and all people and creations.

We obey Christ's teachings, follow the living Prophets and seek for personal revelation and guidance through faith, prayer and scripture study.

We work hard, are honest in all our dealings, we repent of our errors (through the Atonement of our Savior) and forgive others for their wrongdoings as we seek always for that which is positive and uplifting.

We honor the awesome power and authority of the Priesthood, we will receive all needed ordinances and we will receive and keep all temple covenants.

We seek for wholesome influences, associations, service opportunities and will create memorable family activities that unite and strengthen us - - while adding fulfillment and happiness to our Earthly lives.

I AM A DISCIPLE OF JESUS CHRIST

The decision has been made, I have stepped over the line. The dye has been cast - - I am a disciple of Jesus Christ.

I won't look back, let up, slow down or be still.

My past is redeemed, my present makes sense, and my future is secure.

I'm finished and done with low living, small planning, smooth knees, colorless dreams, tamed visions, worldly talking, cheap giving, and dwarfed goals.

I no longer need preeminence, positions, promotions, plaudits or popularity.

I don't have to be first, right, recognized, praised, regarded or rewarded.

I now live by faith, lean on His presence, walk with patience, am uplifted by prayer, and labor with power.

My face is set, my gait is fast, my goal is Heaven.

My road is narrow, my way is rough, my companions are few, my guide is reliable, my mission is clear.

I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, divided or delayed.

I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of the adversary, negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity, or meander in the maze of mediocrity.

I won't give up, stay quiet, or let up - until I have stayed up, stored up, and paid up for the cause of Christ.

I will work 'til He comes, give 'til I drop, teach all I know, and work 'til He stops me - and -

when He returnes (which He will) He will have no problem recognizing me - I will be like Him.
