Family Memories for November 2010

November has been such a great and beautiful month, with lots of memories and activities with family!  We enjoyed watching Devanie's tennis practices and being with Ryan and Cam's family in the sunshine and fall weather.  Devanie will take a time out from tennis for a bit - as her shoulder heals from an injury.  Tennis is a great sport that anyone can play for a lifetime, and it will be fun to see Devanie play through coming years!
Zander had his first year playing soccer on a team, and it was fun to go to some of his games and to see him improve each time.  He is an excellent goalie, and he was 100% on saves for his team when we watched him.  He also likes to run and kick, so is happy when he isn't in goalie position.  I especially liked his attitude on being a good sport.  It is great that his dad practices with him at home so he'll keep learning!
Each time we stopped at Richard's home we saw more additions to his upcoming Halloween party.  His house was decorated with spiderwebs and spiders, he got a lazer light show installed up on the ledges in his family room and also installed a smoke machine.  Richard was a "stick man" with his costume painted with lines that show up under a black light - so it was pretty cool.  Dad and I went to see his friends and their costumes and took some treats.  It was fun to see his friends and to be with he and Bailey!Zander got SO many awards at his Scout award night, and I could tell that he and his parents had been working really hard!  It was fun to see him on his knees eating whipping cream out of a pie tin to find his award - and he did it really well!  He is off to a good start toward becoming an Eagle Scout and is lucky that his dad has been a scout leader in past years because it has helped him to get into scouting fast!
It was an especially fun treat to have Rory, Heather, Alex and Aurora move to Oro Valley so that we could share Alex and Aurora's birthdays together!  Ryan's family, Riley's family, dad and I drove down and enjoyed a fun afternoon of pinatas, pizza, playing and presents!
Each of the kids had their own pinata - - Alex had a Robot and Aurora had a shiny red and silver star pinata.  The kids had lots of turns hitting them and there was candy galore!  It was fun to see their nice home and how well it fits them!  The kids enjoyed playing together and it will be good to be acquainted better now!
Dad and I drove to San Diego to be with our Bluth family at Brittany and Greg's wedding (Barry and Jami's daughter).  It was a beautiful experience to be with family in the temple and to see this couple be sealed for eternity - and to know of Barry's joy for his daughter.  Dad and I enjoyed the day with Antoine and Shannon and Lothaire and Connie, going to the Mormon Battalion visitors center and to a movie.  Then dad and I drove to Coronado Island and looked around, then took a back-roads way home.  It was a great weekend together!
Dad and I have had a very special month with many miracles and blessings which we know will have impact on our individual lives and on us as an eternal family.  We were asked by our Stake Presidency to speak at the Adult Session of Regional Conference.  All of our children were good enough to make the effort to be with us.  It was a very sacred time in our lives to prepare for the talk - which was on Marriage Relationships (Ours) and we knew that we were guided by Heavenly Father in the things that we shared.  We have had many letters, phone calls and visits from people who said that they were greatly impacted by our extremely real and frank talk.  Rick was called and set apart at the Regional Conference as a High Counselor in the Greenfield Stake.  It was a beautiful sight to sit at the end of a long row of our family, and to see everyone SO REVERENTLY sitting there while he received his setting apart blessing from the Stake Presidency - David LeSueur, David Carmichael and Mike Rogers.  It was wonderful having Grandma Bluth and Gandpa Dale, Grandma Gurney and Bailey with us too!  I was set apart as the Family Services Representative for the Stake at that same time, then we all came home for a dinner together!  I'm so grateful for Rick in my life (and for eternity) and so happy that we have chosed to be committed to marriage and family!  It has been worth every moment - and we have learned that the most difficult times have become the most sacred seasons of growth and purification.

Ashley and Jonique's birthdays are right by each other.  I got to see Ashley 2 days in a row - and enjoyed being with her so much!  We went shopping and to lunch, and Riley was good enough to tend Brailyn so that Ashley could have some time of her own.
Ryan and Cambria invited us to their Dance Performance (which was a Cancer fundraiser).  It was a lot of fun and they did a really hard dance and we loved the night!  Their kids were all dressed up to the nines also, and their Alvey grandparents came too.  I took lots of cute pictures of them and the kids dancing (mostly video) - and am so impressed that they take the time to date and to do activities that build their relationship (as well as have fun)!  Thanks for a great night out! We loved it and think it would be great to have a family dance where they teach us how!
Jonique's 22 birthday was a fun day - with an un-planned lunch at Waldo's for barbeque - with Riley, Ashley, Brailyn, Ryan, Cam, Maddaux, Rick, Jonique, Xelly and me.  Afterwards Jonique and I went shopping - until I remembered I had to be at the temple - but I made it in time to do my responsibilities there.
The Bluth Family Thanksgiving at the park was fun and memorable for all - with our family doing all the set-up and take-down for the event.  Everyone brought food and we had a feast (with an over-load everything)!  We played games together - and I liked Kick baseball best.  I forgot to bring the poles fo Human Fooseball - so was disappointed in myself when I saw them when we got home.  Thanks to everyone who helped so well!

LAKE POWELL 2010 - GRANDPA'S CAMERA CONTRIBUTIONS

Uncle Richard and the bambinos on "faith" rock - who can walk on water?  Grandpa took this picture at quite a distance, and it turned out pretty cool!

Here's the big boss - holding the little boss - and awesome that there are so many helpers to set up camp and tie the houseboat down!  Grandpa is so happy to finally have Brailyn be a grandpa's girl!  Yeah!

Is this the picture of the year?  Are those flying bats in the background, or is this freefall skydiving?  Jonique caught Richard and Taylor cliff jumping (cool still-shot), with Riley and Ashley in the forefront (more to be said about the canoe-rocking experience).

Dev and Grandma found clay when we took the little kids hiking in the early morning.  This clay had a lot of sand in it, so we washed it to clean it up a bit, and then made a pot and a dish.  It's so fun to be with Devanie and to talk and laugh with her!  She is an amazing oldest grandchild - and a great example for all of them, responsible, obedient, kind, a great reader, cook, dancer, and smart!  Oh, a side note - on the hike Zander and Roxie went way out in front while we helped Maddaux in a little canyon, and Roxie came back white-faced and needed to be held while she shivered - because she saw a snake - and he was looking straight at her with his little tongue sticking out.  I'm so grateful that she saw him and re-routed in a sprint!

Looks like effortless-horseshoes - and like Rich's muscles from his HVAC work can pitch without stretching.  We missed having Bailey there, but are happy that she is working hard in school, and that she will graduate in May!  Yeah!

So, this is the canoe ride that almost wasn't upright!  Riley made it so exciting by rocking back and forth to make Brailyn laugh (and Ashley not) that he made a miraculous save when they were just about all 3 tossed overboard.  Yes, Jeeping in rocky canyons is easier to keep upright than canoeing - or at least it seems that way!

Riley is coaching Brailyn about how to use the jetski.  He had already successfully coached Devanie and Zander on wakeboarding - and Ryan came in after a long session and said "Riley is surely a good teacher of kids, and so patient!".  I agreed, and also agree that he and Ashley should have about 10!

And since Jacob arrived to the lake late, Jonique had to paddle all the way back to Wahweap and bring him home!  We'll just call her Pocahontas - and imagine that she could row so far!  And since I'm starting to make things up - it's time to end this blog!  What a great trip - and what a great family!  Sending love to all from Mom and Grandma!

LAKE POWELL 2010 MEMORIES FROM GRANDMA'S CAMERA

There is no way to express how much I LOVE the time we get to share at Lake Powell!  It's so wonderful to have the world put aside, and for us to have pure, undiluted time together!  Thank you for all of your efforts to be together!  It carries me through the times of separation, and when I have long, hard hours of work away from each of you!  I love you all so much!  I hope that next year things will work for Rory and Heather's family to be with us - but for now, we're just so happy that they are able to be together again - and that they were blessed to have their Texas home sold, to buy an Arizona home at such a great price, and for Rory to have a great job!  Thank you, Heavenly Father, for more miracles and answers to prayers! We seem to always get amazing beaches for the kids to play in the sand, and with the little ones now, it's so important!  Brailyn and Xelly surely were little water and sand bugs - loving every minute of it!  I'm so proud of all of you as parents, for how you love and care for your children!  Your children are taught well, are not spoiled, and are grateful - always expressing thanks for everything that we do for them.  Thank you for making being grandparents such a great experience!

These older grandkids are so great to play together, even without cousins their ages.  It is so fun now that they can play do so many things, and are so capable!  I loved how Devanie chose scriptures 2 different days that created teaching moments, and I loved listening to their prayers, where they really know how to talk to Heavenly Father.  Thank you for teaching them about Him, and about faith, and about gratitude!

I also love how you fathers take time to teach your kids, and to help them have good experiences.  This hike that Ryan and Zan took to the top of the hill to watch the incoming storm was a cool memory in my heart.  Further down, you will see the big picture, with the women and girls talking on the beach, and Ryan and Zan up above.

This is the life!  Parents, kids, sunshine, sand, sparkling water, and nothing to do but enjoy each other!  I like Riley's "designer sunshirt", and note that he is Brailyn's "designer umbrella"!

We were so excited that Richard was able to come to Powell this year, as last year just wasn't the same without him!  I realized this year that with all you big, capable boys and dad, that there are a lot of things that I haven't had to do for years!  Thank you for being such hard workers, and so capable at everything!  This guy is the water balloon target - and our favorite "single" son!  Taylor's fishing obsession, left some quiet moments for Richard to chill and to tan - until we got enough water balloons filled to blast him!

So cute, and Roxie is a great babysitter!  Brailyn thought she was pretty cool too - and both of them had so much fun!  Roxie said she is going to be a awesome mother when she grows up - and I believe her!

I caught this picture just before Xelly decided to taste the sand, and after that I ran to get Jonique's camera.  Jonique found some special places on the hill where there was signal, so she could text and talk to Jacob, since he was interviewing for a new job.  Yeah, another miracle, and another family with a job - he got hired, and drove up to Powell to be with his family!

Yep, this is my honey!  We LOVE riding jetskis together, making waves, and he loves to soak me!  He knows that I'm not a good behind-the-driver-kind-of-wife, and that I like to ride my own quad or jetski, so I'm thankful that he understands.  I do like to sit in the passenger seat with him in trucks and cars while he drives, but when we play, I like to play!  I never was much of a "watcher" of fun - but like to be in the middle of it!

This is the end of a family outing to the island on the other side of this bay, and I thought this was such a cute pictures of Maddaux hanging onto the canoe while his parents were paddling.  The other kids were at the side swimming all the way back to the houseboat, and after that they went down the slide.

This was our first campsite, where we built the waterslide down Sand Mountain.  Our GURNEY name is in the mountain above, and Beach's name is further up the mountain.  Zander climbed the huge sand mountain so many times that I could not believe it was possible!  Roxie went a lot also, but I only went 3/4 of the way one time, and it was enough for me!  Zander is a real athlete, runner, and now a soccer player!  Awesome fitness!

This is a cool picture before the storm!

There was quite some fishing success, especially by Taylor Frost!  I'm guessing that Riley caught this one, but I lost track of who caught what.  I was so amazed at Riley as a dad, with a little Brailyn who is teething, and how he tends and nurtures his little girl!  Actually, how he tends and nurtures both of his little girls!  Ashley and him are such cute parents, and I have seen them do so many good things for others that my heart is really touched by their goodness.  I'm going to post some of dad's pictures next - but finally - here are these to enjoy!  Sending love to all from Mom and Grandma!

A FAMILY SUCCESS STORY! THANKS FOR ALL YOUR WORK!

Can you believe these 2 little girls!  Aren't they cute together!  I can tell that they will be the best of cousins, and that they will even be happier when they get a chance to be with Aurora!  Yeah!  I am so excited that Rory and Heather got a job in Tucson, and that the cousins can play together once in awhile!  Yesterday I told Maddaux that Alex was moving closer, and that they would be able to play, and he was so excited!
This picture was taken the day that we were trying to finish all the details for the Elliot Open House.  It could never have happened without family!  Thanks to each of you for all the hard work it took to finish it so that we could open it as the Millenial Wellness Center!  It was a miracle to me to see it come together so amazingly from all the hard work that each of you did!  I realized that I didn't get pictures of everyone - so I'm so sorry, because Riley spent 2 days installing, cleaning, organizing and making it beautiful!  Richard was so drowning in his own new home and such long hours of work that we lost all of his salt water fish - and we so sad!  But dad helped him build a new aquarium stand between his dining and living rooms in the wall and he started his beautiful tank all over again!  I was so grateful to Cambria for taking several days to search stores for things that would make it look professional and for helping me with paint colors.  The colors turned out perfectly, and everyone that walks in says "It's so peaceful in here!" (which is exactly what we wanted).  The rug from India is a perfect touch, and I especially like the flower-drying rack (herb) that is mounted on the wall (plus so many other details).  Cam and Jonique assembled shelving systems that hold the products we carry, and that area turned out pretty nice too!Grandpa and Maddaux worked on everything - and Maddaux brought his lunch and his toys (the toys are still there) so he could help his grandpa.  Rick continues to install, fix, make signs, build the gate, fix computer systems with internet, and a daily list of things.  I realized that most of our married life we have built homes, restaurants, businesses, etc together - and that construction is "us".  We like to take ugly things (or non-existing things) and turn them beautiful and productive.Jacob and Jonique assembled 40 chairs and the glass tables for the teaching room and it turned out pretty nice!  Actually, they did so much more than that, and Xelly was there to help too - but mostly she just made us happy!  Grandma Bluth and Grandpa Dale came by several times to help, and the greatest help we really needed was that they called and offered to substitute for Rick and I at the temple on Thursday to give us an entire day of work that was critical!Jacob and his dad (Rod) and a friend of theirs installed the cement patios both front and back, and made a rough stone pattern finish on it.  I really like what they did!  Yesterday they came and sealed it.  It made such a difference in the entire look and clean-up of the place!  Rick had jack-hammered old concrete (a foot deep) out, so it was a massive project!  Jacob had to remove and haul massive amounts of dirt and rock, starting at 4-5 am each morning.Jonique and Ashley purchased the food and prepared it for the Open House.  It was definately a family affair!  The day of the opening I had to take an hour or so and prepare the Herb Class that I was presenting that night, and everyone just worked around me and made it happen!  Debbie Papa (Joe McRae's daughter - and my step sister) dropped by and cleaned, arranged and helped all day.  It was truly a miracle provided by helping hands and a lot of love!  THANKS WITH ALL MY HEART!  THIS IS ONE OF THE THINGS THAT AMAZING FAMILIES DO!  YOU ARE ALL AMAZING AND I AM SO GRATEFUL FOR YOU!

I HAVE FALLEN IN LOVE AGAIN!

Yes, I have fallen in love again - with another grandchild!  It amazes me how we can increase in LOVE over and over again - each little one so precious and so amazing!  Our newest granddaughter is Xelli Raquel Beach - and she is a cutie!  She is so alert and strong and she follows everyone with her eyes (and has since the moment she was born!  It's been a great experience being the mother of the daughter who bears the baby, even though my daughters in law (who I also claim as my daughters) have been so wonderful to reach out to me and involve me.  I feel the love of our Heavenly Father as He sends these little spirits to our family to be raised, to be loved and to be taught about Him.  I am so pleased and proud of our kids and their abilities to parent their children!  The scriptures say "I have no greater joy than to see that my children walk in righteousness" and that is the truth!  Thank you, Heavenly Father, for your amazing plan with FAMILIES being the foundation of all organization here on Earth!  I love my family!

Zander's 8th Birthday with Grandpa and Grandma

Grandpa and I couldn't wait for Friday to come so that we could have our special 8th birthday celebration with Zander! He had such a cool birthday with his family - and got a real DRILL for his birthday (he likes to be like his dad), so when we went to visit them, Zander had already built fences, ladders, signs and everything else he could think of with boards that were around their acre. It was so cool! Zander had even made a "fix-it handyman" sign to post in front of their home (with Ryan's business phone number on it)
Zander chose his favorite restaurant, Red Robin, to eat at, and they treated him royally!  He tried the 50cent "claw" arcade game that tried to pick up stuffed animals until grandma's change was gone. while we waited for food.  The waiters treated him royally and sang their best clapping happy birthday song when they brought his hot fudge sundae!
A memory picture of Zander with Grandpa - the bikes looked like a good idea until he sat on the sharp iron seat and his fat-free bottom end smarted a little!
Yep, after dinner it was Zander's choice to come to our home and play some serious Wii games with us.  Grandma is always the loser - and wore out before these two!  After Wii tournaments we took Zander home - and had a ball playing Cranium Hullabaloo with Zander, Devanie, Roxie and Maddaux.  It was loud and fun - and we finally quit when Roxie was dripping with sweat from head to toe.  Such a fun day!  Now we are excitedly awaiting MAY 8 at 9 am for ZANDER'S BAPTISM DAY!  It is at the chapel (Stake Center) here by our home.  We love you ZANDER!
